You may have heard of these accidents at South Florida’s railroad crossings: A driver stops on the tracks, unable to move because of traffic and is hit by an oncoming train. Or a driver disregards highway railroad crossing warning devices. Or ignores the extension of the mechanical arms, alerting the approach of a train, drives around the arms to outrun the train, and is struck. In some of these scenarios, drivers and passengers were able to walk away from the scene. But in others, their actions proved fatal.
