check mark Causes and Consequences of Slip-and-Fall Accident

trip and fall down on commercial propertyThere are innumerable causes of slips and falls, but the National Floor Safety Institute estimates that around 55% of all slip and fall accidents occur due to hazardous or dangerous walking surfaces. However, what is a dangerous walking surface? Among the most commonly identified hazardous walking surfaces we find wet surfaces, recently mopped or waxed floors, rain or ice brought in from outside, general spills, and uneven surfaces. Since these are all preventable, or easily remedied, situations it makes sense that property owners should take the proper steps to remedy or prevent these conditions.

The consequences of a slip and fall can range from a minor inconvenience to a very serious injury. More than one million people are treated in emergency rooms across the country every year for injuries resulting from slip and fall accidents; this is according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The most commonly treated slip and fall injuries are fractures and sprains of the wrist or arm, hip fractures, contusions, abrasions and lacerations of the skin, facial injuries, leg and foot fractures and sprains, concussions and other head injuries.
